2D platform games seem to be having a resurgence of some sort. We've got GT Interactive's Oddworld coming out soon, along with Crystal Dynamics' Pandemonium 2. And, from comes, a game based on the world of PC game.

Klayman has returned from the PC title to save his home world from the evil Kogg. Kogg has recruited the help of the Skullmonkeys, gorilla-like beasts with skulls for heads from the planet Idznak, to aid him in his conquest. The game is laid out like most 2D platform titles, with enemies to jump on, obstacles to avoid, and floating platforms to navigate across. If you've played any platform titles in the past 10 years you'll have no problems getting around Skullmonkeys. The control is top-notch so far. What will separate this game apart from others of the same type is its unique graphic style. All of the characters have been modeled out of clay and then digitized, giving it a unique, CBS Special-like look.

This carries over across all 120 levels, separated into 20 worlds, which range from factory-like to jungles to snow-covered peaks. Skullmonkeys probably won't change the way gamers look at platform titles, but it may bring a much-needed breath of fresh air to the stale genre.
